Falls Women’s Centre 1982-2009

Personal stories from women who established a women’s centre on the Falls Road in West Belfast.

The centre sought to provide a space for women to feel safe and to gain advice on childbirth, abortion, marital problems, social security, violence against women as well as the more widely known experiences of the Troubles in the north of Ireland …and how all these experiences shaped their lives.

The Falls Women Centre is committed to alleviating the effect of structural and gender inequality on the lives of women through the provision of training and education, advice, advocacy and family support, and childcare.

Since its inception it has developed policy, practice and services aimed at the most vulnerable members of the community to break the cycle of violence and poverty.
