Cumann Chluain Árd

As the Irish language club Cumann Chluain Árd celebrates its 80th birthday, its premises in west Belfast are undergoing a major refurbishment project.

Cumann Chluain Árd is based in Hawthorn Street, Belfast and offer a wide range of Irish-language classes, workshops and events. Since 1936, volunteers have been involved in teaching Irish to people from all areas of Belfast. The service is free.

The organisation’s centre was refurbished with support from Belfast City Council through the Local Investment Fund (LIF), Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) and Ciste Infheistíochta na Gaeilge.

This piece follows the refurbishment, examines some of the history of the organisation and plans for the future.

Completed in 2016.
