The Clonard neighbourhood is situated in the Falls area of Belfast. It is a small, socially deprived area of the city. It is also home to Clonard Monastery, which was developed by the Catholic Redemptorists religious order. Members of this religious order came to Belfast originally in 1896. They built a small tin church in the grounds of Clonard House in 1897. It is also the site of where secret conversations between John Hume and Gerry Adam took place which contributed to the 1994 IRA ceasefire.
